Hanging at The Living Desert

Hi,
Wow. What a busy week we have had! We're planning a trip up to Northern California to visit Sean's grandparents and between that, chasing a nearly mobile 11 month old and an active toddler, I am beat!

I spent almost all of August dreaming of cooler weather and an apple picking trip but I guess I waited too late to actually get there. The day we were set to arrive, I checked their website and all of the "u-pick" trees had been all picked out. :( We were super bummed (no one more than me)but decided it was the perfect opportunity to make a trip to The Living Desert.

The weather has finally dropped out of the 100's and it was actually pretty nice to be out. Patrick loved getting to see all of the animals and play in the little playground they had inside the park.

Natalie did great, too. She was particularly amazed by all of the birds. We took her into several of the aviaries and she would get bouncy and point to all of the birds she saw. It is seriously amazing to watch my sweet, squishy baby turn into a little alert toddler. Neither one of them ever seize to amaze me.

I love watching Patrick start to really interact with Natalie and play with her more. While we were there, he'd point out the owls, "scary birds", told her to "Ay Dios Mio, be careful" more than once. I'm happy to see all the Spanish is rubbing off on him. :) While we took a break from all of the exploring to let Patrick play in the little playground, I sat Natalie down in this rope jungle gym thing that was supposed to look like a spider web. Patrick dropped what he was doing and came running towards her because, "Oh no, Na-ee! The big bug is coming!" and he wanted to protect her. Ah, he melts my heart.

When we were getting ready to leave, Patrick discovered that there were rocks along the trail. I'd scold him when he'd grab one and he was fine with it the first time. The second time, he stopped walking and made his way to the fence where he sat down. I asked him what was wrong and he told me, "Patrick is sad." I'd get him happy again and sure enough, he'd grab a rock and I'd scold and he'd get sad. Each time he'd narrate it- "Mommy, Patrick sad again. No rocks. Sad face!"

This was my favorite picture of the day because it just captures him so well. My Grandma always tells him that Hollywood is missing out on a great actor with all that dramatic talent he has. Gets it from his Momma, I think. :)

We've got a pumkin patch adventure planned for this weekend and I am super excited for it. Happy weekend, everybody!

On Toddlers

I remember a couple years ago during Bible Study we were discussing the Fruits of the Spirit. At the end of our discussion the group leader asked each of us which Fruit we struggle with the most. I was the very last person in the circle and when he turned to ask me, I didn't give him a chance to get the words out before I was answering "PATIENCE!"

Well. Fast forward a few years and that's still the Fruit that I struggle with the most. And Dear Lord, does this little boy test the little bit that I do have.

My sweet, little Patrick. He is so full of life and from the moment he wakes up he wants action, action, action! We try to fill our days with at least one outing to the park and a few good walks around the neighborhood to wear him out a little bit but he's constantly on the go.

Now that Natalie is getting ready to walk, she stands and shuffles from place to place. Well, now we have to be super careful because Patrick will run up to her and say, "Na-ee, let's dance!" It's so sweet but he gets so excited and shakes her. She thinks it's the Best Thing Ever and will giggle and wiggle with him but it's too much.

But for every ounce of wild and crazy little boy, he is full of sweet, heart melting love. There are moments I'll be cleaning or tending to his sister and he'll just come running, "Mommy, Mommy!" and grab my face with his sweet hands, "Hi!" and give me an Eskimo kiss and be gone. He loves and is so protective of his sister, it's amazing to see their relationship change as they grow. He'll sit and play with her and when she tries to put a toy in her mouth watching him scold is just the sweetest, "No, Na-ee, toys are for playing, not eating!"

Days can get difficult, but I love watching the strong willed, determined, athletic little boy my baby is turning into.

Like brother, like sister.

I love trying to recreate photos I loved of Patrick now with Natalie for comparison. This is without doubt, my favorite. They both got my eye shape. :o)

Random Updates

Oh my goodness do I need to get better about blogging. I love having this as an outlet to share my thoughts, show some pictures and keep friends and family updated but I just need to actually do it.

Speaking of, I think I'm going to start a home organization notebook. I've seen a few of my favorite bloggers do it and I think it will help me keep from running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.

Moving on.

The babies are growing. I can hardly call them babies anymore. I loved, loved, LOVED when Patrick would call me Momma. All of a sudden now it's Mom or Mommy. It makes me so sad but it's all just part of him growing up. He's so full of personality and has so many things that are so uniquely him that I'm amazed. I am so thankful to be his Momma.

Oh and my Natalie. Gah. Tomorrow we celebrate 11 months. She now says Momma, agua, more and Pa (for Patrick). She's almost ready to start walking and those darn teeth are driving her crazy. She loves to play with Patrick and seeing them together just melts my heart.

Sean and I took a quick little trip to Vegas and had some great Mom and Dad time. We needed a little reminder that we can have fun without the babes. We left them in Palm Springs with my parents where they had a great time.

Today's my Dad's birthday so we're getting ready to head out to celebrate his aweomse 51 years.

Happy Monday, y'all!

This is how I parent

Okay, I am REALLY not a fan of the Meet the Parents series but after watching this particular movie the other day at a friend's house, I wanted to stand up and yell out BOOYAH! This pretty much sums up the way I feel about parenting.

Post Bath Babies

There are few things more satisfying than two freshly bathed babies.

Seriously. I don't know if it's the sense of accomplishment, the fact that it's proof that the night is winding down or if it's because they look so adorable all powdered up and ready for bed. Scratch that, I do know why. :o)

Here's a little post bath grump.

Followed by a little pout.

Natalie loves the water. We thought Patrick loved bath time but the older this little gal gets, the longer bath time extends and the more giggles and splashes we get to enjoy.

I love being able to bathe her in the kitchen sink... it makes it so much more enjoyable when I don't have to kneel down or worry about her slipping. This way we are eye to eye and we both get to really enjoy the fun.

I know my time at home with these two precious babies where they are my only responsibility is sadly coming to an end and so I try to savor these [mostly] stress free times as much as I can. It's without a doubt one of the most fun parts of this stay at home mom gig. :o)
